    After hearing about Lindsay and Ryan's failed attempt at dinner with Caleb the night before, Kirsten arranges a dinner that she can supervise. But her presence makes no difference when Ryan and Caleb butt heads and disaster strikes. Sandy keeps Rebecca's presence in Newport a secret from Kirsten after deciding to take her case to court. Marissa and Alex's relationship intensifies, while Seth and Summer spend a lot of time together at Zach's insistence.

    The short extract of the orchestral piece that Lindsay is playing is part of the main theme of Brahms' "Variations on a Theme by Haydn".

    Lindsay: What do you think, Ryan? A little Esa-Pekka, a little Yo-Yo Ma.
    Lindsay is referring to Esa-Pekka Salonen, the head conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmic and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Both artists perform regularly at the Hollywood Bowl.

    Goof: When Alex is looking through Seth's sketchbook, you can see that some of the drawings she is looking at are the ones Seth gave to Summer in the previous episode.

    When Lindsay drops Ryan off at his front door after coming home from the hospital, the overhead shot is from "The Accomplice" episode.

    Goof: While in the office with Max and Rebecca, Sandy wears a red tie. As soon as he walks out, he has a striped tie from "The Accomplice" episode. In another sequence, he is wearing the red tie again.

    Episode Quotes

    Rebecca: It's kind of hard to meet people when you can't let anybody know who you really are and can't stay in one place too long.
    Sandy: I can see how that might "salt your game".
    Rebecca: "Salt your game". Is that how they talk in Orange county?
    Sandy: Stick around. You'll be saying "Rad" in no time.

    Rebecca explaining why she hasn't married. Sandy's replies with an OC colloquialism which elicits a sarcastic remark from Rebecca.

    Summer has described her almost kiss (nose graze) with Seth to Marissa. Marissa responds with a question that refers to her growing feeling for Alex without coming out and admitting it.

    Ryan: Look, I'm not the biggest fan of your dad—no offense—but I mean Luke Skywalker was happy to have a dad, even if it was Darth Vader.
    Kirsten: You're right, she needs a dad.

    Marissa: about Caleb: He's like a cockroach, he'll outlive us all.

    Kirsten: Dad, listen up. Ryan, the assumed 'street thug', has been living with us for a year and a half now. He's a brother to Seth and a son to me and Sandy.
